Chavurah Or Tikvah (which means Light of Hope Fellowship ) is a small synagogue located in Oconomowoc, WI. Founded in 1994, we generally meet in our members' homes. During the High Holidays we hold services at Olan Sang Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) a Jewish summer camp in Oconomowoc, WI.
Our spiritual leader is Rabbi Baruch Comrov. He is a chaplain with Midwest Hospice in Chicago and lives in the west side community of Rabbi Michel Twerski, in Milwaukee. He is available for Bar Mitzvahs, baby namings, weddings, etc. He comes for Shabbat services four to six times a year and attends our holiday parties.
His wife, Rebbetzin Ronit Comrov, is a master chef and mashgiach (kosher supervisor) at the JCC in Milwaukee. She gives cooking classes in our members' homes.
Membership dues are $125.00 per year and this includes all High Holiday services which are held at beautiful OSRUI in Oconomowoc. Yom Kippur is an intense and complete experience with our rabbi and his family. We meet in the Lodge at OSRUI which has accomodations for an overnight stay. Many of us are there for the entire 25 plus hours of Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is led by our members and features interactive services. Our Sukkot party is held at our friends the Lensmires farm in Ixionia and includes a farm tour of the goats and other animals.
Chavurah Or Tikvah is a friendly, outgoing group and we encourage you to join us for one of our events. We encompass a fairly wide range of Jewish religious positions--from Orthodox to Reform. We also come from a wide geographical area, including Waukesha, Ixonia, Hartland as well as Oconomowoc. We have some lively debates at times, but generally manage to remain a close group that has respect for all its members. L'Hitraot! (See you later)
